Puppy-friendly frozen treat recipes

Puppy-friendly frozen treat recipes - Barking Heads & Meowing Heads

Treat your puppy to a frozen snack during the summer that tastes great and helps to keep them cool! Discover how to make some of our favourite puppy-friendly frozen treat recipes in our latest blog.

Just like us, puppies love tucking into a refreshing, icy cold treat during the warmer months, but it’s important to ease them in gently to new ingredients so as not to upset their stomachs.

Get creative in the kitchen during summer and treat your pooch to a frosty snack that tastes great, is safe for their little tummies and keeps them cool!

N’ice to chews

These simple yet delicious frozen treats can be made in a wide range of flavours to keep your new fluffy addition satisfied.

Mixed berry frozen chews

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of mixed berries
  • 100ml water
  • 300g Greek yoghurt

A key ingredient in this recipe – Greek yoghurt – is a good source of protein, calcium, and probiotics, all of which can boost your puppy's immune system and help them get over an upset stomach. Remember not to over-do it though and give them more than one in one sitting, as like with most things, too much of something isn’t good for their bellies.

To make them, simply blend all the ingredients in a blender, pour into the moulds and put them in the freezer for 2 to 3 hours, then they’re ready to eat!

These are great treats for humans and dogs, so you can enjoy them together!

Chicken stock chews

For a more meaty treat, these are low in calories but still taste delicious. Why not try swapping out the stock for different flavours like lamb or beef to keep things interesting?

Ingredients:

  • 1 reduced salt chicken stock cube (or stock of your choice)
  • 300ml boiled water

Combine the stock cube with the water and stir well until completely mixed, then wait for it to cool before pouring into the ice lolly moulds. Then put them in the freezer for 2-3 hours and there you have it! Tasty, low calorie frozen treats your pup will love while keeping them hydrated!

Frozen Toys

Help your pup cool down and keep them entertained by freezing some of their chew toys. Try putting some xylitol-free peanut butter inside their favourite rubber chew toy, popping it in the freezer for a couple of hours, before returning it to them. It can provide tasty fun for a good hour or so!
